      The bottleneck often appears after cleaning

      A coffee lot can pass through screening, aspiration and density separation and still contain beans with unwanted visible color or surface condition. Mechanical equipment is effective when materials differ in size, weight or aerodynamic behavior. It is less effective when a defective bean has nearly the same physical dimensions as an acceptable one.

      A processor should decide whether the priority is maximum accepted-product cleanliness, minimum loss of good beans, or a defined balance between the two. Some lots may reach the required standard in one pass. More difficult lots may benefit from a second pass or a separate recovery pass through the reject stream.

      The correct setup is confirmed by checking both outputs. Inspect the accepted coffee for remaining target defects, then inspect the reject material for good-bean carryover. Record the result by lot and adjust the recipe only when the raw material or buyer specification changes. This operating discipline is more useful than chasing an unsupported universal accuracy number.

      Where automation saves time

      The largest efficiency gain usually comes from removing repetitive bulk inspection from the manual workflow. People remain important for defining the quality standard, reviewing borderline material, monitoring the process and approving the final lot.
